Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?

"Excuse me sir, could you spare some change.  I injured my back and haven't been able to find steady work since 2009.  I'm having a rough time adjusting to coming back to a normal life."

"Did you serve overseas?" you ask, rifling through your pockets for change.  You've always been fond of soldiers and a good friend to drifters.

"No sir, I was a baseball player."

And all of a sudden it hits you.  You realize why you recognize this man.  Shave his face. give him a bath, and dress him in a black cap and some tall socks and it's former post season hero...

JOE CREDE!

"Jesus Joe, what happened?"

"I don't know.  I got hurt and couldn't play anymore so I moved to Minnesota.  I started waking up hating myself every day, so I rode boxcar after boxcar just to get back to the South Side.  By the time I made it home, no one remembered me."

"That's awful.  Well shit, I think we each have a problem the other could solve!  Get in my car."

That night, it was announced that Joe Crede had been signed on to mentor Brent Morel.  His first act was to give Brent one of his old bats.  The next night, Brent Morel would become the first White Sox player in 63 years to hit four homeruns in one game.

And all because you decided to help the homeless.
