If you hadn't be steeling yourself up for the news, you might want to have a seat. In a sturdy chair, not the bean bag. Why do you even have a bean bag? You are a grown ass adult. What kind of furniture is that for an adult?
A.J. Pierzynski has officially signed with the Texas Rangers for a one year deal, pending physical. Rumors amongst the Twitterverse have it at $8.5MM. That's around the cost zone where I'm okay with letting the man walk. Maybe he'll get another ring while playing in Arlington.
It will be interesting to see how he handle splitting time behind the plate with Geovany Soto, seeing as the Rangers went out and gave the former Cub $2.75MM for this upcoming season. So if they do choose to go with a traditional platoon, the Rangers are looking at $11+MM for what might be around 2 WAR. That's pretty much the going rate. Unless former Chicago catchers somehow become the new market inefficiency.
We'll have more information as soon as it's out there.
Paul Konerko is now the lone man left from the 2005 squad.
