The White Sox placed Jesse Crain on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique and called up right hander Dylan Axelrod from Charlotte. Crain has been inactive since last Friday in Seattle.

Axelrod has been starting in Charlotte this season and has done a wonderful job, posting a 2-1 record with a 1.08 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 25 innings. He fell just short of making the roster out of spring training, as the club opted to keep Zach Stewart.

We briefly saw Axelrod last September when he started three games and went 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA over 18.2 Innings pitched. He logged two quality starts against the Tigers and the Blue Jays.

Crain's injury is retroactive to April 21. He had a problem with his right oblique in Spring Training that caused him to miss some time. He had performed well prior to this injury as he put up a 2.57 ERA and 10 strikeouts over 7 innings pitched.

Axelrod will wear number 39.
