Kenny Williams apparently had "some interesting discussions" but nothing came close to fruition. Considering he's spent this season dumpster diving for the likes of Kevin Youkilis, Brett Myers and Francisco Liriano, perhaps the post-July 31 market will suit him better, as the players of interest who pass through waivers next month are almost universally owed tons of money.
In non-trade news, Williams said that there was no room on the 25 man roster for Brent Morel. Apparently once his rehab assignment is over, he'll just be staying with Charlotte. Orlando Hudson lives to sit on the bench for another day.
Moves/non-moves by other AL Central teams:
- The Royals traded Jonathan Broxton to the Reds for a couple of minor league pitchers.
- The Twins allegedly tried to trade Denard Span to the Reds but Span allegedly rejected the trade. Other reports indicate the trade never reached the stage of asking for Span's approval. Or that Span didn't even have a no trade clause to begin with.
- The Indians acquired Lars Anderson from the Red Sox for a minor league pitcher who throws a knuckleball. Anderson is a 1B/LF and has spent most of the season in the minors
- The Tigers were silent.
One notable move by an AL contender:
