The Dominican Winter League was the first of the Caribbean offseason leagues to finish its regular season.
UTIL Leury Garcia finished up with a .260/.338/.339 line for Gigantes del Cibao in 33 games. He stole 12 bases in 13 attempts. Those numbers are pretty much the major league upside for the switch-hitter, which should be more than adequate for a player with his defensive value and versatility.
1B Dan Black made his last appearance for Aguilas Cibaenas on December 2, finishing up at .270/.372/.484 in 33 games. The 25-year-old is an org player.
Recently signed MiLB free agent OF Denis Phipps didn't do much to impress his new employers .086/.195/.171 in 15 games for Estrellas de Oriente. The Dominican is simply org depth.
RHP Euclides Leyer pitched a single inning for Tigres del Licey in the final regular season game, throwing a clean frame with no hits, no walks, no strikeouts. The 21-year-old is a pitcher to watch as he moves up to High-A in 2014.
RHP Tony Pena Jr. threw 24.1 innings in 23 games for Aguilas, giving up 22 hits and 7 walks while striking out 27. The 32-year-old converted infielder still hasn't given up the ghost.
LHP Frank De Los Santos, RHP Francellis Montas and LHP Santos Rodriguez also played in the DWL but they did not play after my prior update.
