Apparently one month is the end of the White Sox' patience. LHP Donnie Veal, after a superb late season call-up in 2012, was absolutely atrocious in 2013: 12 G, 6.1 IP, 4 R, 7 H, 4 K, 1 WP. And the penalty for that is Veal being sent down to Triple-A Charlotte.
In his place, the White Sox called-up RHP Brian Omogrosso, who spent parts of last season with the team, as well. The 29 year-old was solid in the majors in 2012: 17 G, 21 IP, 6 R, 20 H, 9 BB, 18 K. The 2006 6th round pick out of Indiana State University was the last player optioned to the minors after Spring Training.
This season for Charlotte, his overall line doesn't look good - 7 G, 9.2 IP, 7 R,14 H, 1 BB, 1 IBB, 9 K - but a lot of that damage came in his second appearance of the season.
Omogrosso (pronounced "oh-muh-GRAH-so") will wear uniform No. 48.
With Veal sent down and Hector Santiago moving into the starting rotation, this leaves the White Sox bullpen with only Matt Thornton as a left-handed option.
