White Sox trade Jake Peavy to Boston in three-team deal

Trade nets Detroit prospect Avisail Garcia and "three prospects" from Red Sox in return

Jake Peavy will be joining Matt Thornton with the Red Sox, but the rest of the deal is taking some time to sort itself out.

The White Sox shipped Peavy to Boston in a three-team trade involving the Detroit Tigers. The Sox will receive the Tigers' top outfield prospect, Avisail Garcia, and the rest of the deal has also been finalized.

Per the White Sox press release:

The White Sox get: Garcia from Detroit; infielder Cleuluis Rondon, hard-throwing right-handed pitcher Francellis Montas, and righty Jeffrey Wendelken from Boston.

The Red Sox get: Peavy from Chicago; right-handed reliever Brayan Villarreal from Detroit

The Tigers get: Shortstop Jose Iglesias from Boston.

So that's a Top 100 prospect from Detroit and three low-level prospects from Boston. Beyond the White Sox, the Red Sox bolster their rotation at the cost of Peavy's contract and an expendable defense-first shortstop, and it appears that the Tigers have a shortstop for if and when the Biogenesis axe drops on Jhonny Peralta.

Garcia has been assigned to Triple-A Charlotte, though he may not stay there for long. The 22-year-old came back from an injury to hit .382/.414/.549 over 152 PA at Triple-A Toledo.

Alex Speier of WEEI.com has brief write-ups on Rondon, Montas and Wendelken.
