- Arbitration-eligible
- Ronald Belisario, $3.9M Non-Tender
- Tyler Flowers, $2.1M Tender
- Dayan Viciedo, $4.4M Non-Tender. How many first-pitch popups does it take to crush a fan base's spirit?
- Hector Noesi, $1.9M Tender
- Nate Jones, $600,000. Tender
- Javy Guerra $1.3M (if he is a Super Two) Tender
I really like Noesi as either a 5th starter or long reliever. And with so few big hitting catchers these days, I'm fine with Flowers being the primary option behind the plate.
Contract options (pick up or buy out):
- Felipe Paulino: $4M for 2015 or $250,000 buyout. Umm no
Free agents (re-sign or let go?):
- Matt Lindstrom: $4M salary in 2014. Hard pass.
Free agents
- Melky Cabrera 5 years/$66 mil
Just a solid hitter who bounced back nicely from the PED mess to hit .301/.351/.458 with 35 doubles.
- Adam LaRoche 2 years/$22 mil
Major upgrade at DH and can spell Abreu at first base. Considered an excellent fielder who hit 26 bombs with 92 RBI this year and a .362 OBP.
- Brandon McCarthy 3 years/$36 mil
Seems like the type of steadying influence this rotation needs. Bonus: he's hilarious on twitter.
- Phil Coke 2 years/$5 mil
Good arm. Throw the Cooper magic dust on him and see if he can become reliable and make Tigers fans angry for a different reason.
Trades
- Conor Gillaspie and Micah Johnson to the Reds for Todd Frazier.
Summary
This team still needs bullpen help but the lineup is way better.
