The White Sox are getting ready to move out of Camelback Ranch, and made some moves this morning to make that a little easier.
- Jordan Danks, Jake Petricka, and Matt Davidson optioned to AAA Charlotte
- Dylan Axelrod reassigned to minor league camp
- Mitchell Boggs was waived
Jordan Danks did everything he needed to do to stay in the majors. Unfortunately for him, it looks like the Sox are going break camp with Dayan Viciedo and Alejandro De Aza on the club. He's got nothing really to prove at AAA and gets to spend his season waiting for a callup.
On Friday, Rick Hahn basically stated that Matt Davidson would be joining the team later. Like Danks, he has little to prove at AAA is playing the waiting game for a roster spot.
Dylan Axelrod struggled through last season, but the Sox still like him as a guy. He'll be spending his time at Charlotte as depth, but his future with the Sox in the majors is much less certain.
Finally, Mitchell Boggs couldn't turn around his poor performance from last season during spring training. With a 12.79 ERA, it didn't seem like Coop could fix him. Also, with Maikel Cleto out of options and fixed by Coop, Boggs became expendable.
Jake Petricka fell into the same numbers games as Boggs, but with options available, the move to AAA makes the most sense for now.
Waiving Boggs puts the 40-man roster back to 39 with the end of the bullpen, backup catcher, and last position player spots open.
