White Sox make first cuts of spring

The White Sox have gotten through four games and the first cuts of Spring Training are here already.  The following players have been reassigned to the minor league camp.

• Pitchers - RHP Chris Bassitt, RHP Parker Frazier, RHP Brian Omogrosso, LHP Mauricio Robles
• Catchers - Kevan Smith
  
• Infielders - Mike McDade
  
• Outfielders - Denis Phipps

Of this first batch, McDade, Smith, Bassitt, Frazier, and Omogrosso actually made it to a Spring Training game.

Having spent most of last season on the White Sox 40-man roster, McDade is a mild surprise to be leaving already.  He went 2 for 5 with 2 BBs and 2 RBIs and played in all four games so far this Spring.  Of course, having Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko, Jose Abreu, Andy Wilkins, Dayan Viciedo, Jeff Keppinger, and Alex Liddi all possibly trying to get time at DH or first base, going to the minor league camp where the next best guy is Dan Black is probably going to get him more playing time this Spring.

Bassitt, Frazier, and Omogrosso all got in one inning of work each.  All three struggled.  Bassitt walked two and gave up three hits in his appearance.  Frazier's one inning was over two games and gave up a total of two hits, a walk, and a run.  Omogrosso gave up two hits and a walk in his single inning, but didn't give up a run.  With the bullpen signings the past offseason, they probably needed to do a little more to stick around longer.

Kevan Smith was barely here.  Even with Josh Phegley out with the flu, Tyler Flowers, Adrian Nieto, and Hector Gimenez have gotten the bulk of the catching time.  "Moonlight" Smith appeared one game and is gone without getting an at bat.
