Bullet point recap:
*This game looked like the last time the White Sox tapped an emergency starter to take on a Cy Young winner -- Hector Noesi made it one time through the lineup with minimal fuss, but they jumped on him the second time through in a four-run fourth. Like Charlie Leesman, Noesi just couldn't get the final out of the inning.
*The bullpen did a pretty nice job over the last 5⅓ innings, allowing only one run, and an unearned run at that. Marcus Semien's attempt to start a 5-4-3 double play pulled Gordon Beckham off the bag, and everybody was safe. That run ended up scoring when Daniel Webb issued a bases loaded walk with two outs in the ninth -- frustrating, since he came on with the sacks packed and struck out Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera to almost escape it unscathed.
*The run didn't really matter, because the White Sox couldn't score their only run until two outs in the ninth inning, when Tyler Flowers singled home Dayan Viciedo.
*They had a number of chances to put the pressure on Max Scherzer, putting runners in scoring position with one out in the third, fourth and sixth innings. Scherzer ended up pitching six scoreless.
*The Sox didn't win the game, but they did win their first challenge. Jerry Layne called Adam Eaton out, saying Austin Jackson's throw from center beat Eaton to second when Gordon Beckham's flare dropped in. Eaton looked safe in real time, and the replay demanded a reversal after Robin Ventura challenged the call.
*Eaton also made a terrific wall-crunching catch in the first to take the pressure off Noesi for a few innings.
*Alexei Ramirez set a March-April White Sox record with 40 hits.
