Conor Gillaspie returns from the DL; Jordan Danks optioned to Charlotte

Gillaspie is back, but who are the Sox' outfielders now?

USA TODAY Sports

The White Sox have reinstated Conor Gillaspie from the DL today and optioned Jordan Danks back to AAA Charlotte. While Danks was likely on his way back to Charlotte anyway, the fact that he had options made him the more likely candidate to go.  For now, it leaves the Sox with a bigger question: Who's the fourth outfielder?

With Danks gone, the Sox really only have three outfielders on the major league roster. Once Adam Eaton returns from the DL, it looks like Moises Sierra will be the Sox' fourth outfielder.  For now, the fourth outfielder job appears to belong to Leury Garcia, much to Marcus Semien's chagrin. Garcia's seven games in center field in the majors could trump Semien's higher ceiling right now. As Jeff Keppinger's rehab in Birmingham seems to be going OK, that could mean Semien would be the next guy to head to Charlotte.

Although Adam Dunn probably has more outfield appearances than all the other outfielders combined, he likely remains the fifth outfielder unless he's not DH'ing. Otherwise, all bets are off.
