In the second round of the MLB draft, the White Sox selected RHP Spencer Adams from White County HS (Ga.).
Adams is a power pitcher with a mid-90's fastball who's split his time playing basketball in high school. His slider is his next best pitch and has a workable changeup and curveball as well. He was the 27th ranked prospect by MLB and 21st by Baseball America, so the Sox appear to have gotten some good value from the 44th pick.
He has committed to play at Georgia so signability could be a reason for the drop in the draft. Here's what the Georgia baseball coach had to say about him.
Stricklin on Adams: "Spencer has a big time arm with a fastball that can get into the low to mid 90's. He also has a swing and miss slider that is as good as we've seen. He is a great athlete that has a lot of upside. He will have a great opportunity to make an immediate impact on our pitching staff."
So, what's he look like?
