The White Sox see their first split-squad action of the spring today, and thanks to a stunt directed by HBO, the two teams are going to be worlds apart when it comes to exposure.
The normal split-squad game takes place against the Rangers at 3:05 p.m. Central. The latter happens three hours later, as part of a staggered schedule that will allow Will Ferrell to play every position over five games for 10 different teams over the course of the day.
Ferrell will suit up for the White Sox for at least part of their game against San Francisco (the other city by the bay) at 6:05 p.m. Central. He's on the roster and everything:

And Robin Ventura doesn't seem to mind:
I would've given him points for demanding for Ferrell to piss excellence.
It'll be the fourth of five games in which he's scheduled to appear. The whole thing will be filmed as part of a Funny or Die Special that will air exclusively on HBO later in the year, and it'll also be used to serve as a fundraiser for cancer research.
Ferrell is starting with shortstop for Oakland:

And it looks like he's going to cross off catching against the White Sox:
The plan as I understand it: Ferrell will catch an intentional walk. If it's still Bum, don't expect any lobs home.

Sadly, we won't be able to watch Frankie Montas make his first spring start. He'll be toiling in anonymity against Texas., while Hector Noesi starts against the Giants, which will be viewable via:
