Frankie Montas will be the 26th man for Friday's doubleheader

Frankie Montas and his big fastball will be coming to Chicago on Friday. Maybe that means the bullpen will get some use then.

Well, we were all looking for some fun with the prospects after the All-Star break and it looks like we going to get it.  The White Sox will be calling up Frankie Montas to fill the 26th man for Friday's doubleheader with the Royals.

The White Sox acquired Montas from the Red Sox almost two years ago in the trade that sent Jake Peavy to the Red Sox.  For Birmingham this season, Montas has gone 2-1 in 15 starts over 71 innings with a 2.47 ERA 3.03 FIP, 7.64 K/9, and 3.58 BB/9. Montas also threw a seven inning no-hitter for the Barons in June.

On Sunday, Montas appeared in the Futures game, allowing three earned runs and four hits in two-thirds of an inning. As Jim discusses in the weekly minor league thread, his outing still got a lot of people excited. For those too lazy to click a link, this tweet kind of sums it up.

Since Montas is already on the 40-man roster, it stays at 39. After Friday, Montas presumably will be headed back to Birmingham.
