The White Sox announced today that they have traded Conor Gillaspie to the Angels for cash considerations.

Gillaspie had been designate for assignment on Sunday and hasn't played for the Sox since before the All-Star break.  He had been the White Sox starter at third base for the previous two seasons before plantar fasciitis slowed him down this year.  Hitting .237/.276/.364 for the Sox this season, his offense sunk below his 2013 levels. Along with that, his .890 fielding percentage and -8 defensive runs saved didn't help much either.

Gillaspie slated to fill in at third base for the Angels.  Yesterday, the Angels put David Freese on the 15 Day DL.  Freese was hit by a Mike Pelfrey pitch Wednesday night and broke the tip of his right index finger.  Freese is expected to return in about two weeks.

In case you missed this in the comments earlier, we have a special trade deadline edition chat with Josh Nelson and Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com.

I’m posting my chat with Tim Dierkes from MLB Trade Rumors which will be live at 10 am CST. He gives great insight on what they are hearing in terms of Jeff Samardzija rumors, Cole Hamels, Johnny Cueto, David Price, and some bats that could be available.
