Before today's deadline to protect players from the Rule 5 draft, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contracts for outfielders Jacob May and Adam Engel, along with pitcher Brad Goldberg. Starting pitcher Brandon Brennan was outrighted to Charlotte (AAA).
As larry pointed out this morning, the Sox had four good candidates to be added to the 40-man roster. The only player mentioned previously that wasn't added was left-handed reliever, Will Lamb. The Rule 5 draft will be held on December 8th, 2016 during the final day of the Winter Meetings.
In order for team's to make roster space, several players are now available to be claimed off waivers. The Milwaukee Brewers claimed Minnesota Twins outfielder, Adam Walker II, and the Cleveland Indians claimed LHP Tim Cooney. Twins third baseman, Trevor Plouffe, has been placed on outright waivers.
3B Trevor Plouffe has been placed on outright waivers, per person w/direct knowledge. Expected to clear today and become FA. #mntwins

The 40-man roster is now full for the White Sox. Any moves such as trading players could require additional cuts to the 40-man roster to make room for incoming additions.
