The hot stove is hot. Very hot.

Based on posts from multiple reporters, talks for a trade that would send Chris Sale from the White Sox to the Nationals seem to be getting a little closer this evening. Depending on who’s talking, the deal is still in flux or down to the haggling on the secondary pieces. Let’s take a look at a reporter who has been know to have a source whose name rhymes with Penny Billiams.

Giolito and Robles are the Nationals’ top two prospects and are currently both top-10 prospects on MLB.com. Giolito is a big right-handed starter with a mid-90’s fastball, a curve, and a developing changeup. Robles is a speedy right-handed hitting OF. He ended last season in the high-A Carolina League and turns 20 next May.

While trying to finish up the Sale story, news of a possible trade that would send Jose Abreu to the Rockies also emerged. According to the article, talks between the two teams started during the GM Meetings. Apparently, talks are still very preliminary, but the Rockies have three top-10 prospects in shortstop Brendan Rodgers, right-handed pitcher Jeff Hoffman, and right-handed pitcher Riley Pint that probably have the White Sox’ interest.

Since the news seems to keep coming, I’ll be monitoring and updating as needed. Tomorrow could be very interesting.
