The White Sox have had a busy lunch time of transactions to start this week. Last night, the Sox optioned Tommy Kahnle back to Charlotte. They followed that up today with the following:
- Recalled RHP Miguel Gonzalez
- Designated catcher Hector Sanchez for assignment
- Activated Alex Avila from the 15-day DL
Since last we saw Miguel Gonzalez, he's had two starts and has pitched six innings. His first start back was limited to two batters when the second at-bat ended like this.
In his second start, he gave up eight hits, walked two, and struck out seven in 5⅔ innings.
Alex Avila went on the DL on April 24 with a right hamstring strain. He spent this past weekend rehabbing at Charlotte. In three games, he went 0-for-8 with three walks and three strikeouts.
We barely got to know Hector Sanchez. He played in two for the Sox and went an uneventful 1-for-7 with a walk. While a DFA can be pretty final, this move is likely just to get him off the 40-man roster and back to Charlotte.
With these moves, the 40-man roster is back to 38.
