The White Sox have placed pitcher Miguel Gonzalez on the 15-day DL today due to a strained right groin. To take his place on the roster, the White Sox have recalled pitcher Chris Beck from Charlotte.
Gonzalez was hurt during the second inning of last night’s game. During the first at bat of the inning, Salvador Perez fouled off a 3-2 pitch. Gonzalez winced a little bringing out Robin Ventura and Herm Schneider to check on Gonzalez. He left the game right there.
Beck is back to the White Sox for his third stint with the team this season. Since his last time in Chicago, he’s been exclusively relieving for the the Knights. In seven games, he’s walked five and struck out ten in ten innings, but has also given up 12 hits.
Right now, there is some mystery regarding who will pick up Gonzalez’s starts. Beck hasn’t been starting at Charlotte so it seems unlikely he’d be thrown into that. Jason Benetti went through the likely candidates during the game last night: Carson Fulmer, Jacob Turner, and Anthony Ranaudo. For now, we’ll have to wait until the White Sox clear this up.
