Chitownfan's Mock Off-Season

Write "tender" or "non-tender" after each of the following names. Note that you can trade before or after tendering a contract, and that players can also be extended.

Explain the toughest calls if necessary:

While Petricka and Putnam have provided us some stability in the bullpen the last few years, the injuries have struck often lately and Petricka looked atrocious last year coming back from injury. It's time to move on. Farquhar is a reliable veteran to have for the 6th and 7th inning, has a career 10.2 K/9 and if he can give us 50IP at $1.5mil, i'll be happy. Alburquerque has too many control issues to keep around.

Impending free agents (re-sign, let go or qualifying offer)

Elaborate if needed:

No need to elaborate, any veteran catcher we sign get's hurt.

Free agents

Peruse the list of potential free agents and name two (or more) you would pursue, the max offer you would extend to them, and a brief explanation. A good-bad example:

No. 1: Chris Iannetta (1 year, $2.5mil): Veteran stop-gap for Collins. We need an above average defensive catcher and this guy fits the bill. Thrown out 25% of runners in his career. Can also provide some pop as a 10-15 HR guy.

No. 2: Wade Miley (1 year, $4M): Another reclamation project and innings eater. A southpaw as well.

No. 3: Tony Watson (2 years, $15M): Left-Handed setup man. Worth every penny here. If we are to spend this off-season, spend in the bullpen.

No. 4: Yusmiero Petit (2 years, $8mil): Saw this in another post. Ideal long relief guy. Worth the money here.

No. 5: Drew Storen (1 year, $3.5M): 1 year 'prove it' deal. Has the 'stuff' to be a reliable 7th/8th inning guy. If not, it's just a 1-year deal.

Trades

Propose trades that you think sound reasonable for both sides, and the rationale behind them.

No. 1: Trade Avisail Garcia and Nate Jones to New York Mets for Wilmer Flores and 3B Prospect David Thompson.

Sell high on Garcia, the Mets could use Garcia in a platoon with Conforto or Nimmo in RF and Jones provides some veteran relief in the bullpen they desperately need. Flores can play the entire infield, and could be perfect in spelling Davidson at 3rd, who could solely focus on his plate discipline as the DH. Flores also holds down the fort until Burger is ready. Thompson has put up solid numbers in A-ball and is an above average defensive fielder.

No. 2: Trade Tyler Saladino to anyone for Cash Considerations.

The Flores trade makes Saladino expendable. I'm gonna miss that facial hair.

DO NOT TRADE JOSE ABREU. This guy is the reason Cubans want to play here. He's done so much for the organization. He stays for his career.

Alot of prospects will be playing in a Sox jersey this year...Kopech, Burdi, Gillaspie. The list goes on and on. This will be another rough year, but we'll see some exciting baseball come September when some of our top prospects will be called up.
