Stealing gnix's idea

2. Sign INF Ramon Urias, 1 yr/???
Stealing gnix's idea. I'll allocate $2M here.

3. Sign 2-3 Non-Roster Invite or Free-agent Loogy Relievers
Let’s find the next Anthony Swarzak! I'm allocating $6M here.

1. Trade 1B Jose Abreu to the Red Sox for LHP Jay Groome, 3B Michael Chavis, Hanley Ramirez, & $10M cash
Assuming Abreu has 3.5 & 3 War seasons in 2018 & 2019 at a cost of $17.5M each year gives him about $30M in surplus value. Figuring Top 75 Groome is worth $22.5M & Top 100 Chavis is worth $20M, means I need to take back about $12.5M of Hanley's $22.5M contract.

2. Trade RHP Danny Farquhar to the Angels for 1B Albert Pujols, $75M cash, and top 150 prospects OF Jahmai Jones and Jo Adell and RHP Griffin Canning
Pujols has $130M total remaining on his contract and the Angels give me $75M to help pay him in this trade. (The Angels free up $45M to pursue Darvish, Arrieta, Moustakas, or Hosmer since they need to win right now!) I'll apply $15M to each of 2018, 2019, and 2020. I've already cleared $17.5M of Abreu's salary in 2019, Shield's $11M and Hanley Ramirez's $12.5M come off the books, and I'll remove Avi Garcia's $6M by July in the following trade.

3. All-Star Break: Trade OF Avisail Garcia to the Rockies for top 150 prospect C Tom Murphy

No team is going to give Top 50 prospects like Carson Kelly or Ryan McMahon for Avi Garcia given his track record and what OF's like JD Martinez and Justin Upton went for last year.

I want to use all of the $110M in payroll to collect as many prospects as possible along with adding some flip-able pitchers who may bring more at the All-Star break. I do add $15M in payroll in each of 2019 & 2020 with Pujols but clear $46M in 2019, so the net $30M savings should allow plenty of $ to bid for Machado, Harper, etc. The Angels' system is weak, so I'd substitute a different team who needs to clear payroll now and has a better system but am still happy with the Pujols trade. My rotation starts off thin in 2018 but anticipates having Kopech, Rodon, and Hansen at the All-Star Break.

Here’s my 2018 All-Star Break 25-man roster:

RF Leury Garcia
2B Yoan Moncada
1B Hanley Ramirez
DH Albert Pujols
LF Nicky Delmonico
C Tom Murphy
SS Tim Anderson
3B Yolmer Sanchez
