SoxFan01's Offseason Plan

Arbitration-eligible (with projected salaries from MLBTR):

Write "tender" or "non-tender" after each of the following names. Note that you can trade before or after tendering a contract, and that players can also be extended.

Explain the toughest calls if necessary: I don’t think Petricka or Putnam will be healthy enough to be effective again.

Impending free agents (re-sign, let go or qualifying offer)

Elaborate if needed: I’ll miss you Pelf Dog Millionaire

Free agents

Sign Miles Mikolas for 2 years and 12 Million

Sign Hector Santiago for 1 year and 5 Million

Can be at least a 4 or 5 starter. Possible trade candidate.

Sign Tommy Hunter 1 year 3 Million

Trades (Here’s where it gets crazy)

White Sox Trade Dylan Cease, Blake Rutherford, Dane Dunning, and Jameson Fisher to the Marlins for Christian Yelich and Martin Prado

I tried modeling this somewhat after the Eaton trade. The White Sox get a young, high obp outfielder that can lead off for the next four years. Trading a significant part of the 3rd wave of prospects hurts, but I think the risk outweighs the value of Yelich (I really like Yelich). The Marlins restock their farm with a potential top of the rotation starter, above average outfielder, and mid rotation starter, although Rutherford and Cease have some significant risk. Sox also eat Prado’s awful 2 year 30 Million Dollar contract.

White Sox trade Avisail Garcia to the Cardinals for Delvin Perez, Sandy Alcantara, and Randal Grichuk.

I think that Avi can be a consistent 3 WAR player for the Cardinals over the next two years. I also know that the Cardinals have a glut of outfielders but they get an upgrade with swapping Avi for Grichuk. Grichuk gets a second chance with the Sox to be a slightly above-average player, and they can trade him. If not, Sox can replace him with Eloy when he’s ready. Sox also get a talented young infielder in Perez.

White Sox trade James Shields(Full Contract) to Braves for Matt Kemp(Full Contract), Ian Anderson, and Touki Toussaint

I saw this trade proposed by a Braves fan on twitter. Sox eat Kemp’s salary, and add more prospects. Also get rid of Shields, so win-win.

Starting Rotation

  1. Giolito

  2. Santiago (Rodon when he comes back)

  3. Mikolas

  4. Lopez

  5. Fulmer

Worst pitchers out of Mikolas, Lopez, Santiago, and Fulmer can be moved to the bullpen when Kopech and maybe Hansen are ready.

Starting Lineup

1. Yelich CF

2. Moncada 2B

3. Abreu 1B

4. Kemp DH

5. Delmonico LF

6. Grichuk RF

7. Smith C

8. Anderson SS

9. Sanchez 3B

Eloy can replace Grichuk when he’s ready, and Zach Collins can replace Smith.

  1. Engel or Tilson OF

  2. Omar Narvaez C

  3. Leury Garcia OF/ IF

  4. Martin Prado IF

Cut Salad and Davidson

  1. Danish

  2. Farquhar

  3. Bummer

  4. Fry

  5. Infante

  6. Minaya

  7. Hunter

Take the worst two relievers out of here if Lopez and/ or Fulmer get moved to the bullpen.

I’m not sure if this can be a wild card team with that bullpen, but hey, why not try? The bar isn’t that high to clear. And I think Kopech and Eloy will perform well and give the team a late season push.

Projected Record: 79-83

Payroll: Payroll for this team should be about $108 million.
