The White Sox have placed Jake Petricka on the 10-day DL with a strained right lat. The Sox have recalled Tommy Kahnle from Charlotte to replace Petricka on the 25-man roster.
Petricka returned to the Sox this spring after missing most of last season with a hip injury that eventually required surgery. Petricka had a bit of a scare just over a week ago when he took a line drive off his pitching hand in one of the last spring training games. He returned to pitch this past weekend in Milwaukee and in the delayed opening day game.
Kahnle comes back to Chicago after spending most of last season with the Sox. Over 27⅓ innings, he walked 20, struck out 27, and finished with a 2.63 ERA/4.46 FIP. Despite finishing strong last season, the combination of Dylan Covey’s Rule 5 draft status and Anthony Swarvak’s strong spring pushed Kahnle off the 25-man roster to Charlotte.
There were no changes to the 40-man roster with this transaction. Next game is today at 1:10 pm.
