Bad news for those that were enjoying watching Nicky Delmonico start his major league career on fire. Thanks to spraining his wrist during a swing on Thursday's win against Minnesota, Delmonico is now on the 10-day disabled list. For Rick Renteria's bench options was virtually none last night because Leury Garcia was suffering from back spasms, Delmonico dealing with his wrist, and Matt Davidson still hadn't arrived in Chicago before first pitch.
To replace Delmonico, the White Sox purchased catcher Rob Brantly’s contract.
Who you may remember from the 2015 season where Brantly appeared in 14 games and hit .121/.167/.242 with a home run and six RBI. In 37 games with the Charlotte Knights in 2017, Brantley is hitting .286/.373/.454 with five homers and 30 RBI.
This injury is frustrating as it's another White Sox prospect that would make these final five weeks more interesting to watch. Delmonico now joins Yoan Moncada and Reynaldo Lopez on the disabled list. In 22 games, Delmonico had been one of the most productive hitters for Chicago batting .307/.429/.573 with six home runs and 12 RBI.
