I'll miss the 2017 White Sox: Eight reason why I loved this team

1) Yoan Moncada’s first few months with the team were enthralling. His speed, power, batting eye, and defensive prowess are inspiring. Despite some early struggles, his unique skillset is the most exciting for a Sox field player since Frank Thomas.

2) Jose Abreu is a stud. The man just rakes. In 2017, Abreu slashed .303/.359/.560 with 33 home runs.

3) Lucas Giolito’s early success: Some scouts thought Giolito lost his magic. They were wrong. After posting a 1.6 WAR and a 2.38 ERA in seven starts, he showed Sox fans that he has the stuff to be a front line starter for years.

4) Tim Anderson’s September: In May, Tim Anderson’s best friend was shot and killed in Alabama. This was obviously a life-changing event for Anderson and diminished his play on the field for good reason. Despite the trauma, he’s posted great numbers to end the season. Maybe he’s turned a corner.

5) Nicky Delmonico: He’s a great story and could be an integral part of the rebuild.

6) Melky Cabrera and Jose Quintana Bonus Time: Cabrera and Quintana were two of my favorite White Sox players ever but for totally different reasons. Cabrera has more fun than anyone else. From faking his catches to hugging his teammates, we loved watching Melky. Quintana goes about his business with painstaking detail and calmness. And while he wasn’t his best self with the White Sox this year, watching Jose Quintana pitch for the White Sox was a joy. They will both be missed, but I’m glad we were able to watch them both play for years for the White Sox.

7) Eloy Jimenez: I’m just so excited to watch him hit.

8) Stress-free baseball: It was a delight watching the Sox and knowing there was a plan. It was fine when they lost because this team was supposed to be bad. When the outcome holds minimal consequences, you are left with pure baseball joy.
