The Kannapolis Intimidators guaranteed themselves at least two more games with a 4-0 shutout over the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Thursday night.
The extended season allows Willy Garcia to get some reps as he works his way back from the concussion and broken jaw suffered while getting the worst of a collision with Yoan Moncada. Based on the Kannapolis game recap, Garcia was able to give an all-out effort:
Willy Garcia, who joined the Intimidators on a Major League rehab assignment prior to the game, legged out a 2-out infield single and moved to second base on a Gavin Sheets walk. White Sox first round pick Jake Burger followed with an RBI-single up the middle, and Garcia slid head-first home ahead of the throw for a 1-0 lead.
It’s the first Kannapolis playoff victory since 2005, and it can advance to the South Atlantic League Championship Series with a win either today or Saturday.
