Surprise jumped out with two runs in the first inning, and it seemed loss No. 11 for Glendale was already in the books.
But the Desert Dogs pitching held firm, whitewashing the Saguaros for the rest of the game. After chipping away to tie with runs in the third and fourth innings, Glendale won the game after a one-out double by Cleveland catcher prospect Li-Jen Chu and single by Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop prospect Errol Robinson.
It wasn’t a bad day for White Sox prospects. Robert led off the second inning with a walk, and led off the fourth with a sharp double to left, scoring the tying run later in the inning.
He grounded out to third in the fifth inning, and struck out swinging in the eighth.
Rivera was not so successful. He walked in the first inning, but then struck out swinging in the third. In the fourth, after the Desert Dogs had tied the game, he ended the inning with a fly out to center, leaving the bases loaded. He also struck out swinging in the seventh.
Dopico entered the game in the sixth inning, giving up his only hit with two outs, then erasing that single with a caught stealing to end the frame. In the seventh, Dopico hit the leadoff batter and allowed him to steal second, but still managed to exit with a scoreless appearance, relieved by Rob Kaminsky after a fly out and second strikeout.
