Charlie Morton went from a guy who was considering retirement, to rejecting a one-year deal from his 100-win Houston Astros, to signing for a couple of years in Tampa Bay.

Just when you thought the Chicago White Sox had become more of a media darling, there’s a roundup of White Sox rumors from MLBTR. This is my favorite part:
I get it, ha ha, the White Sox suck and their money isn’t green enough. This, to me, is a Phil Rogers take, someone far, far from the rumor mill, just throwing dough at a dartboard and calling them hot takes. For someone right in the thick of rumors — I believe “Rumors” is right there, in the name — to willfully ignore the reality that the market is shading favorably toward the White Sox, that’s just lame.
Anyway, the piece is exhaustive, but other than that dubious insight above, I’m not sure it’s worth a click, but hey, it’s almost noon and, well, nothing else is happening.
On Tuesday, we got our first real taste of Winter Meetings action, as the Chicago White Sox acquired starter Iván Nova from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Cool.
Meanwhile, the White Sox have been connected to just about every significant free agent in baseball. GM Rick Hahn and his boss, Ken Williams, have done their customary good cop/bad cop schtick so far at the meetings: Williams glaring all wild-eyed at the field of prime talent out there for the picking, Hahn taking some of the edge off with plenty of ifs and buts.
But it seems like a fine time to strike. There’s a lot of talent out there, generational talents like Bryce Harper and Manny Machado (and, with a nod to the all-around game and lower price, I’d wedge Yasmani Grandal in there, too), and it’s forcing the White Sox’s competitive window open a bit, it seems.
That said, who of the rumored players listed in the first two days of SSS Winter Meetings updates signs with the White Sox? Or, if more than one, who signs with us first?

None of the above. I dare not to dream, even on South Side Sox, where none of the money I’m spending is my own.
