So, things are getting serious in Glendale.
Eight Chicago White Sox players were sent down, including stellar blue-chippers Eloy Jiménez and Dylan Cease.
- Outfielder Daniel Palka and infielder José Rondón head to the Class AAA Charlotte Knights.
- Lefty Ian Clarkin and Jiménez will be at the Class AA Birmingham Barons.
- Outfielders Micker Adolfo and Luis Basabe head to the Class A Winston-Salem Dash.
- Cease and battery mate Zack Collins are reassigned to the general minor-league camp.
The moves cut the outfielder competition down almost completely.
Assuming two catchers, five infielders and five outfielders come north (six INF and OF apiece if you consider Leury García as both infielder and outfielder), it seems just one of Jacob May, Ryan Cordell and Adam Engel will be sent to Charlotte.
Quick and dirty handicapping
Catchers: Welington Castillo and Omar Nararez
Infielders: Yolmer Sanchez, Matt Davidson, Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, Jose Abreu
Outfielders: Nicky Delmonico, Leury Garcia, Adam Engel, Ryan Cordell, Avisail Garcia
The White Sox are now down to 45 players in camp, including 24 pitchers, four catchers, 10 infielders and seven outfielders.
