In tribute to our gametread/recap writer as yet unaccounted for, today’s story will emulate what you would have seen had said writer surfaced:
The Good
José Abreu clocked a three-run blast off of Rays closer Alex Colomé in the bottom of the ninth, drawing the White Sox to within 6-5.
Gregory Infante entered a bonafide jam (runners at first and second with one out) in relief of Hector Santiago, and after loading the bases on a single to Carlos Gomez, whiffed C.J. Cron and and got Matt Duffy on an inning-ending force play.
After the Rays ran wild on Omar Narvaez and a host of pitchers in yesterday’s game, Narvaez and Castillo each gunned down a base stealer at second.
Tim Anderson stole third base, his sixth straight successful steal of the season.
Tyler Saladino had two hits.
The Bad
The White Sox only had six hits.
The White Sox starter once again failed to clear the low bar of five innings pitched. No wonder the bullpen is ground beef.
Nicky Delmonico was charged with his second outfield error in 64 innings.
Yoan Moncada had another hat trick.
The Ugly
That White Sox starter, Carson Fulmer, was awful, with a 38 game score: 4 2⁄3 innings, five hits, four runs (three earned), six walks, four strikeouts, a balk and two HBP. It’s like the ugliest bingo card ever printed.
Welington Castillo left the game in the sixth inning with an knee injury.
The White Sox were 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. In the first two games of the series, that puts the team at 3-for-26 with RISP. Entering today’s action, Tampa’s pitching staff was 26th in the majors in ERA (5.09), 27th in WHIP (1.46), 22nd in slugging percentage (.422) and 23rd in OPS (.764).
The White Sox have started 0-5 at home for the first time since 1975.
