Charlotte falls in extra innings; Dane Dunning sizzles for Winston-Salem

Charlotte fell in extra innings, but it was a good day for the rest of the White Sox farm system.

Norfolk Tides 4, Charlotte Knights 3 in 11 innings

Matt Skole: 0-for-2, 3 BB, SB

Juan Perez: 2-for-5, 2B, 2 R

Alfredo Gonzalez: 3-for-4, RBI, R ***MVP***

Dylan Covey: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K

L: Robbie Ross Jr. (0-1), 2/3 IP, H, R, 2 BB

The Knights finish their season-opening road trip 3-3, with their home opener on Thursday. Charlotte only managed six hits in 11 innings of baseball with C Alfredo Gonzalez leading the way offensively thanks to three hits, one run and an RBI. 2B Juan Perez added two hits and two runs. RHP Dylan Covey started and allowed three runs on four hits over five innings.


Birmingham Barons 5, Montgomery Biscuits 2

S: Ian Hamilton (1)

Seby Zavala, the White Sox’s No. 21 prospect, led the Barons with a homer and a double, plating two RBI. LF Fisher also left the ballpark for the second time this season. C Zack Collins’ batting average fell to .071 with an 0-for-3 night and a strikeout. Birmingham pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts of Biscuits hitters.


Winston-Salem Dash 9, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 0

Joel Booker: 1-for-4, 2 R, BB, SB

Luis Alexander Basabe: 3-for-5, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB

Gavin Sheets: 1-for-3, 2B, RBI, R, BB

Micker Adolfo: 2-for-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R

Yeyson Yrizarri: 1-for-4, 2B, RBI, BB

Ti’Quan Forbes: 2-for-4, 2 RBI

W: Dane Dunning (1-0), 6.1 IP, 2 H, 8 K ***MVP***

Dunning was spectacular in this one, hurling five hitless innings to start and allowing just two hits (with eight strikeouts) in 6 1/3 innings for the win. He got plenty of offensive support as the Dash scored five runs in the fifth inning en route to nine runs on 11 hits. CF Basabe stayed red hot, raising his season average to .400, while DH Adolfo drove in his sixth run of the young campaign.


Kannapolis Intimidators 6, Asheville Tourists 4

With two outs in the eighth inning, the Intimidators recorded three hits to plate two runs to take a 6-4 lead they would not relinquish. Kannapolis took five of seven games on their season-opening homestand. 3B Rivera led the offensive charge with three hits (including a double), one RBI, a run scored and a pair of stolen bases. I’s relief pitching struck out six in 2 2/3 innings of work.
