On Negro Leagues Tribute Night, Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson’s daughter, Sharon, came out and the Knights captured a win.
Charlotte Knights 5, Rochester RedWings 3
Jose Rondon: 3-for-4, HR (3), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, SB ***MVP***
Kevan Smith: 2-for-5, 2 RBI
Daniel Palka: 2-for-3, RBI, BB
Alfredo Gonzalez: 1-for-4, 1 R
Jacob May: 1-for-4, 1 R
Chris Beck: 3 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
W: Tyler Danish (1-1), 3 IP, 2 H, 1 K
S: Gregory Infante (1)
Jose Rondon was a man on a mission, with three hits including his third home run of the season, a pair of RBI and a stolen base for good measure. Rondon led an 11-hit Knights attack. Danish allowed just two hits (0 runs) in three innings of relief work as Charlotte never relinquished a lead they took in a four-run fourth inning.
FINAL: Generals 4, Barons 3
— Birmingham Barons (@BhamBarons) April 18, 2018
W: Payamps (2-0)
L: Turner (2-1)
S: Lopez (2)
Barons strand the tying run in scoring position in both the 8th and 9th innings and fall in another close one. Game 3 of the series is tomorrow at 11:05 a.m. Jordan Stephens will be on the mound.
Jackson Generals 4, Birmingham Barons 3
Tito Polo: 1-for-4, 3B, 1 RBI
Jameson Fisher: 2-for-5
Matt Rose: 2-for-5, 1 RBI
Zack Collins: 0-for-2, 1 R, 3 BB
Keon Barnum: 1-for-4, 2B, 1 RBI
Trey Michalczewski: 2-for-4, 2 2B, 1 R ***MVP***
Danny Mendick: 1-for-4, 2B, 1 R
Spencer Adams: 3 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K
L: Colton Turner (2-1), 2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 4 K
Following a close play at second base, Barons pitcher Spencer Adams, along with hitting coach Cole Armstrong, were ejected from this one ending Adams’ night early. Polo crushed his lone hit off the centerfield wall, but got greedy trying to make it an inside-the-park homer and was thrown out at the plate. Birmingham had chances to tie the game, with runners in scoring position in the 8th and 9th innings, but there would be no heroics.
Despite homers from Luis Basabe and Yermin Mercedes, the Dash fall 5-4 against the @GoWoodDucks. We'll look to salvage the finale tomorrow.

Basabe: 16-for-40 with 2 HRs & 10RBIs over his last nine games
Mercedes: 5-for-13 with 2 HRs over his last three games pic.twitter.com/qtw2387hVP
Down East Wood Ducks 5, Winston-Salem Dash 4
Luis Alexander Basabe: 1-for-5, HR (2), 1 RBI ***MVP***
Alex Call: 1-for-4, 1 R, 1 BB
Blake Rutherford: 1-for-4, 2B, 1 RBI
Yermin Mercedes: 1-for-4, HR (2), 1 RBI
Yeyson Yrizarri: 2-for-4, 1 R, 3 SB
Zach Remillard: 2-for-4, 3B, 1 RBI
L: Bernardo Flores (1-1), 6 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
After wrapping up a fantastic week of baseball from April 8-14, the Dash suddenly finds themselves on a three-game losing streak. However, a few individual performances stuck out in this one with Basabe and Mercedes hitting their second home runs of the season, respectively. Yrizarri added a pair of hits and swiped three bags. Flores ran into trouble in the third inning, allowing four runs in the frame.

Augusta GreenJackets 6, Kannapolis Intimidators 5
Luis Gonzalez: 2-for-5, HR (2), 4 RBI ***MVP***
Justin Yurchak: 2-for-3, 2 BB
Laz Rivera: 2-for-4, HR (2), RBI, 2 R
L: Lincoln Henzman (0-2), 2 IP, 5 H, 6 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 1 K
Not a single GreenJackets run was earned as the I’s were overly gracious, committing three errors in this one. The poor fielding overshadowed a pair of home runs, including a grand slam by White Sox No. 18 prospect CF Luis Gonzalez. Henzman was the tough-luck pitcher, who departed after two innings trailing 6-0 but not allowing one earned run.
