"I don't look at our record, and thank god because I thought we were 5-20, and we're only like 5-17. So we're better than I thought we were." -- Royals manager Ned Yost.

OK, well, it’s a matchup of 5-16 and 5-17 teams tonight. Apparently, Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost isn’t even aware of how many losses his club has, so what are all of us ninnies in Chicago so worried about?
On a serious note, Rick Renteria’s mother, Angela, passed away, so he will be absent from the team for Friday’s and Saturday’s games. SSS’s thoughts are with the Renterias.
Flip side, Danny Farquhar continues to progress post-brain surgery, and is taking few short walks on the ICU floor with his wife.
Dane Dunning was promoted from Winston-Salem (A+) to Birmingham (AA) today, taking the rotation spot of (I believe) Matt Tomshaw, recently promoted from Birmingham to Charlotte (AAA). In his short sneeze of a stint this year with the Dash, Dunning led the Carolina League with 31 strikeouts and 24 1⁄3 innings pitched. He’s 1-1 with a 2.59 ERA.
Also, lefty Colton Turner was promoted to Charlotte from Birmingham just before gametime.
And finally, on a more minor note (unless you are a steely-faced member of the Gillaspie family), the White Sox outrighted Casey Gillaspie off of the 40-man roster today, to Class AAA Charlotte, decreasing the team’s 40-man to 39. The club acquired outfielder Todd Cunningham from the Pittsburgh Pirates, in exchange for future considerations. At Indianapolis (AAA), Mr. C hit .130/.192/.174 over nine games.
Now, the lineups:
