OK, here we go, with the South Side Sox Most Essential White Sox poll.
The guidelines here are pretty simple: The top five finishers from the prospects poll and roster poll are rolled out each vote, giving you 10 names to choose from in our mashup of the two polls.
In the end, we will have our Most Essential White Sox list.
There were questions regarding criteria from the get-go during the Roster Ranking poll. The most important player for the future? For winning now? As a flippable player at the trade deadline?
I don’t know the answers to these questions. Just like when it comes to making trades, signing free agents, or drafting amateurs, there’s no set criteria. Logically, a team whose competitive window is “in the future” would probably not count a player on the downside of his career as terribly essential. But the criteria is yours and yours alone as a voter.
Especially given the fact that the White Sox are currently the worst team in baseball, I’m voting with an eye to the future. I am selecting the player who I feel will bring the most total value to the team in years to come.
Anyway, enough Facebooking the vote here. Vote your conscience, SSS brethren.
With the Roster Ranking I included a couple of stat lines, and with the Prospect Poll I included some stats and a bio. To begin with, given that the players on the ballot are the five most prominent prospects and roster members, I’m just going to put the ballot out there. Going forward, if there’s valuable info (short bio, 2018 stats, link to a FanGraphs page) you’d like included to help you with your decision, let me know in the comments. I’m guessing that through at least the first 10 Essential Picks, nothing but the ballot will be necessary.
