Gamethread: Orioles at White Sox

Some timely hitting would be great tonight...

MLB: Texas Rangers at Chicago White Sox
Feeling Alright: James Shields has “kept his team in in the ballgame” this year, even if that means giving up multiple runs in the first inning.

We have some depressing White Sox statistics to share with you, courtesy of our leader Brett Ballantini. So, here ya go...

  • The White Sox are on a 48-114 pace, which would be the worst 162-game franchise record by five games (1932). The 2018 Sox are also tied with 1948 for worst 44-game start. If they lose tonight, they fall back into “first” place for the worst start.

I’ll share my own crazy, depressing stat...um, the Sox are only 8.5 games out of first place. Do I think the Sox will be close to contention this year? Of course not. But seriously, the Cleveland Indians are leading the AL Central with a 22-23 record. All five teams in the division are below .500. To put that in context, there are four teams in the National League with a sub-.500 record. It’s ridiculous, really.

  • Anyway, tonight’s pitching matchup features James Shields (1-4, 4.88 ERA) for the Good Guys and Kevin Gausman (3-3, 3.88 ERA) for the Bad Guys. I think Paul Konerko could swipe a bag of this pitcher-catcher combo tonight. Look out for the Sox to take advantage of Gausman’s slow delivery to the plate.
