Happy Seis de Mayo, everyone. It’s a beautiful day for baseball in the City Beautiful. If you’re inside today, hopefully you’ve at least got your windows open.
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like Tim Anderson is developing into a Juan Uribe-level streaky hitter. After just a single and a walk in his previous 22 plate appearances, he exploded Saturday night with a pair of homers and a double. The guy hits some rockets and then goes fishing for any decent breaking ball. If Anderson can continue to be average-ish with the bat and the glove, that’s an acceptable outcome, if not an ideal one. His patience will be tested this afternoon against Kyle Gibson, who’s striking out more than a batter per inning this season but has also given up his fair share of walks.
James Shields is on the mound this afternoon. He threw six stellar innings against the Cardinals his last time out, giving up a leadoff home run and just one other baserunner, with no walks and four strikeouts. We’ll see if he can stay hot against the Twins and salvage a split of this four-game series.
Hawk Harrelson is in the booth today with Tom “Wimpy” Paciorek. They’re back together to celebrate their 12 years sharing the microphone, so there will be reminiscing throughout the game.
Today's #WhiteSox starters.
