Former first-round pick Zack Burdi gets back on the bump; AZL and DSL White Sox each earn wins

Burdi back on the bump: 2016 White Sox first-round draft pick Zack Burdi tweeted video of him pitching off a mound. He had Tommy John surgery in July of 2017 and has been sidelined ever since.

RHP Zack Burdi, the White Sox’s first-round draft pick (No. 26 overall) in 2016 who has been out since undergoing Tommy John surgery on July 27, tweeted out this video of him pitching:


The 2018 Southern League All-Stars, including seven members of the Barons, visited a Children’s Hospital Monday morning:

Speaking of the Southern League All-Star Game, Barons RHP José Ruiz was added to the roster. In 21 games between Winston-Salem and Birmingham this season, Ruiz has a 2.51 ERA in 21 games covering 32 1/3 innings.

The AZL White Sox jumped in front early, plating three runs in the second inning. Another run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth inning put the game out of reach. 2B Camilo Quinteiro stood out at the plate reaching base five times with two hits in two official at-bats, a pair of RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base. C Ty Greene contributed three hits in an eight-hit attack for the squad. After starting pitcher Taylor Varnell completed three innings of shutout ball, Nelson Acosta came in to pitch four innings of one-run ball to earn the victory.


DSL Orioles 4, DSL White Sox 0

The DSL White Sox fell to 2-12 on the season after being shut out by the DSL Orioles on Monday. DSL White Sox managed just four hits, none for extra bases, with Ulises Martinez contributing half of those hits. Starting pitcher Yordi Rosario pitched two scoreless innings before being removed. Cristofer Melendez gave up four runs (three earned) in two innings to take the loss. On the bright side, DSL White Sox only committed one error in this one.
