- The White Sox designated Bruce Rondon for assignment earlier today and purchased the contract of Jeanmar Gomez from Class AAA Charlotte. Rondon was effective when he was first called up, but his control eventually escaped him. He posted an 8.49 ERA and a 2.16 WHIP with the Sox. Gomez has been pretty good in Charlotte with a 5-0 record and 2.03 ERA in 30 relief appearances.
- Carlos Rodon gets the start for the Sox tonight. Rodon is coming off an impressive outing after throwing six innings of two-run ball against the mighty Houston Astros. He did walk six, so hopefully he can lower that number a bit tonight.
- Luke Weaver gets the start for the Cardinals tonight. Weaver has had his ups and downs, but he is coming off his best start of the year. He went eight innings against the San Francisco Giants on July 5, giving up just two runs and striking out seven. He has a 4.92 ERA, but his 4.15 FIP indicates he’s been better.
