- James Shields gets the start for the White Sox tonight. There’s been more discussion about some possible suitors for Shields around the trade deadline, but let’s not get carried away with the potential return. He won’t bring back a top-100 prospect, but the return should help with the team’s minor league depth — which is already pretty freaking good.
- Luis Castillo gets the ball for the Reds. Castillo went just four innings against the Atlanta Braves in his last outing, giving up four earned runs on six hits. He also boasts a 5.85 ERA this season, so hopefully the Sox can take advantage of the 25-year-old.
- Chicago has lost five of its last six road games by a combined 53-22 margin, allowing 41 runs in the last four
- Shields will pitch in the 35th different ballpark of his career tonight, and 29th among the active MLB parks
