Dylan Cease was absolutely dominant, retiring the first 20 batters he faced until allowing the first hit of the game with two outs in the seventh inning. Cease matched a career high with 12 strikeouts, finishing with a 90 game score. He had plenty of offensive support as well. Matt Rose finished a triple shy of the cycle, finishing with three hits including home run No. 14 of the season, three RBI and three runs scored. Zack Collins added a pair of hits, including his 12th homer of the season and a RBI single in the first inning. Following his two-homer game last night, Alex Call had two more hits and RBI. Luis Basabe extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
You can't ever accuse this team of giving in.

Trailing in the ninth against Frederick, Luis Gonzalez (@Luis5Gonzalez) snuck a three-run homer down the right-field line to tie it up.

Blake Rutherford (.308): 3-for-6
Ti’Quan Forbes (.281): 2-for-6, 3B

L: Devan Watts (0-1, 2.08 ERA), 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 1 K
Down 4-0 entering the bottom of the ninth inning and with one run in, Luis Gonzalez crushed a three-run homer to tie the game and force extra innings. After Frederick plated two in the top of the 11th inning, Gonzalez again gave the Dash hope with a RBI single, but they couldn’t bring him in to tie it in a tough loss. Gonzalez was one of three Dash players with three hits in this one as Blake Rutherford and Yeyson Yrizarri matched him to combine for nine of the Dash’s 16 hits. Ti’Quan Forbes had two hits, including a triple, and Zach Remillard also had a pair of base knocks. Starting pitcher Kyle Kubat pitched into the seventh inning, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out five as Gonzalez’s late heroics got him off the hook for a loss.

Game 1: Kannapolis Intimidators 6, West Virginia Power 2 in 8 innings

Luis Curbelo (.249): 2-for-4, GS (2), 4 RBI ***MVP***
Nick Madrigal (.458): 1-for-3

W: Will Kincanon (2-1, 3.86 ERA), 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Game 1 of Wednesday’s doubleheader was full of drama and heroics. After giving up a run to West Virginia in the top of the eighth, the I’s quickly responded as Johan Cruz doubled home Tyler Frost to even the score at two. Then, with the bases loaded, Luis Curbelo belted a walk-off grand slam to give the Intimidators the victory. If not for the late offensive fireworks, starting pitcher Drew Harrington was the story here as he pitched seven outstanding innings of one-run ball, allowing just five hits and striking out four while walking one. Harrington threw 70 pitches (50 for strikes) for a 69 game score.

Game 2: Kannapolis Intimidators 8, West Virginia Power 7 in 7 innings
Ian Dawkins (.480): 2-for-2, 2B, 1 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 SB (1)
Luis Curbelo (.254): 2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R
Craig Dedelow (.267): 2-for-4, HR (8), 2 RBI ***MVP***
Justin Yurchak (.260): 2-for-2, 1 R, 1 BB
Carlos Perez (.286): 1-for-3, 1 R
Johan Cruz (.213): 1-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 R
Evan Skoug (.210): 1-for-3, 1 R
Jhoan Quijada (5.40 ERA): 4 IP, 6 H, 5 R (3 ER), 2 BB, 1 K
The I’s complete a sweep of the doubleheader after jumping in front with a seven-run third inning, then plating the winning run in the sixth inning after West Virginia battled back to tie it at seven. Luis Curbelo’s RBI single plating Ian Dawkins after he doubled proved to be the game-winning hit. The third inning began when Evan Skoug singled and came in to score on Dawkins’ double to left. A Luis Curbelo double to left scored Dawkins, then Craig Dedelow followed with a two-run homer to center field -- his eighth of the season. After Tate Blackman walked and was thrown out attempting to steal second base, Justin Yurchak singled followed by Carlos Perez. Then, Johan Cruz singled to plate two more runs, and eventually scored on a balk after finding his way to third base following an error.
Bryce Bush (.379): 2-for-4, 2B, 1 R
Luis Mieses (.250): 1-for-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R
Lency Delgado (.257): 1-for-2, 1 RBI, 2 BB
W: Taylor Varnell (3-1, 1.67 ERA), 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K ***MVP***
S: Rigo Fernandez (3, 1.74 ERA), 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Brilliant pitching from Taylor Varnell and Rigo Fernandez led to a victory over the crosstown rival AZL Cubs. Varnell pitched a one-hit shutout over six innings while striking out eight for an 82 game score to earn the win. Meanwhile, Fernandez picked up the save by hurling three innings of shutout ball. Combined, they limited the AZL Cubs to just three hits. The AZL White Sox supported them with three runs on eight hits (while only striking out three times). 3B Bryce Bush had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored a run. LF Luis Mieses contributed with a RBI double and a run scored.

Harold Diaz (.273): 1-for-4, 1 RBI

Johnabiell Laureano (.208): 2-for-4
Omar Martinez (.173): 1-for-3, 1 R
Andres Rosario (.167): 1-for-3, 1 R
Samil Polanco (.246): 1-for-3, 3B, 1 RBI, 1 R
Yordi Rosario (1.82 ERA): 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K ***MVP***
L: Fernando Caro (0-4, 6.04 ERA), 1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
Trailing 2-0 in the eighth inning, DSL White Sox scored three to erase the deficit and take a lead. But that 3-2 edge was wouldn’t last long as reliever Fernando Caro gave up two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give DSL Blue Jays a 4-3 lead they would hold on to. Starting pitcher Yordi Rosario was brilliant once again, pitching six innings of shutout baseball while striking out nine, lowering his ERA to 1.82 in the process. DSL White Sox out-hit DSL Blue Jays 10-4 with Jorgen Rosas (3) and Johnabiell Laureano (2) combining for half the DSL White Sox hits on the day. Samil Polanco had the big blow in the eighth inning, with a RBI triple and a run scored.
