- The Sox failed to make any blockbuster moves before today’s 3 p.m. CST trade deadline. They did however trade international signing bonus pool money to the Tampa Bay Rays for pitcher Hunter Schryver. The left-hander is 1-3 with a 2.40 ERA this season between Class A Bowling Green and Class A Charlotte.
- James Shields is in fact still a White Sox and gets the start tonight. Shields is coming off one of his worst outings of the year, giving up six earned runs in just four innings pitched against the Los Angeles Angels on July 25.
- The lowly Kansas City Royals will throw Danny Duffy out there tonight. Duffy is 6-9 with a 4.70 ERA and stands as the ace of this struggling staff. He is coming off a rough start of his own, surrendering seven earned runs over 5 2⁄3 innings pitched against the Detroit Tigers.
