Six Pack of Stats: Royals 3, White Sox 1

José Abreu was the best of an overall lousy game from the South Siders

Steady Fall: Look at how José Abreu’s eighth-inning, leadoff double raised the White Sox’s win expectancy to nearly even. Alas.

José Abreu’s two hits on Saturday earned him a .14 WPA, tops on the White Sox. Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals took the game MVP, with .20 WPA.

The Chicago White Sox appear to have started a totemistic relationship with one, single, metal logo chain, bestowed in the dugout on the most recent home run hitter. Nicky Delmonico, with his second in two days and fifth of the season, earned the chain tonight.

Birmingham Barons hurler Dylan Cease holds a 1.05 ERA over his last eight starts.

With three total bases (double and single) in Saturday’s loss to the Royals, Abreu’s career total is now 1,495, five short of the 1,500 mark.

Per STATS, the White Sox fanned 10 or more times in eight straight games between August 5 and 13, a team record. The eight games is one shy of the major league record, set by the Milwaukee Brewers in July 2017.

In the final three innings of the 3-1 loss on Saturday, White Sox batters struck out for seven of the final nine outs, or 78%.
