White Sox look to secure at least a series split today in Detroit

Three in a Row? Lucas Giolito seeks his third consecutive win on Saturday vs. the Tigers.

For the first time this season, Lucas Giolito has the chance to string together three consecutive wins. In his previous two starts (both quality starts), Giolito lasted six innings and allowed only three earned runs, securing the win in both. One of those victories came against today’s opponent, the Detroit Tigers. In last week’s win against the Tigers, Giolito stretched eight hits over six innings, while striking out seven and only allowing one walk.

Since the All-Star break, Giolito boasts a 3-1 record over six starts, and faces a very beatable opponent today in Ryan Carpenter. Carpenter was a free agent pickup during the offseason, and has been thrust into a starting role due to injuries and a trade. Although he just earned his first major league victory, this season has been less than satisfactory for Carpenter, who has an ERA of 6.00 and a K/9 of just 5.00.
