Charlie Tilson: .353 BA, 2 R, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 5 K
Ryan Cordell: .292 BA, 1 HR, 7 R, 5 RBI, 5 BB, 6 K, 2 SB
Eloy Jimenez: .560 BA, 5 R, 5 RBI, 1 BB, 3 K ***MVP of the Week***
Seby Zavala: .379 BA, 3 R, 6 RBI, 0 BB, 4 K
Carson Fulmer: 2 IP, 1.83 FIP, 13.50 K/9, 4.50 BB/9
Spencer Adams: 6 IP, 4.66 FIP, 3.00 K/9, 6.00 BB/9
Jordan Guerrero: 10 IP, 2.73 FIP, 10.80 K/9, 4.50 BB/9
Ian Hamilton: 2 IP, 2.33 FIP, 4.50 K/9, 0.00 BB/9, 2 saves
With the Michael Kopech promotion and Eloy seemingly incapabale of having an extended period of bad baseball, fans are overlooking how Ryan Cordell should be in the majors now. He started off slow when he returned in July, slashing only .235/.264/.392. Since the start of August, Cordell has fared much better and looks more like the top prospect he is, improving to .292/.347/.438 for a wRC+ of 118. He seems to have his timing back and some pop to his bat, as his ISO over the same span is .146. Cordell’s strikeouts have actually increased from July to August but his improvement with walks has been even more positive. In July, he had a walk rate of 3.8%, and so far in August it’s up to 8.9%. He is even stealing bags again, converting on four of his five stolen base attempts.

Joel Booker: .310 BA, 3 R, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 12 K
Luis Basabe: .292 BA, 1 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, 0 BB, 7 K
Alex Call: .115 BA, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 8 K, 1 SB
Zack Collins .136 BA, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 11 K
Dylan Cease: 5 IP, 0.19 FIP, 19.80 K/9, 3.60 BB/9 ***MVP of the Week***
Kodi Medeiros: 5 2⁄3 IP, 2.86 FIP, 9.53 K/9, 3.18 BB/9
Matt Foster: 2 IP, 0.89 FIP, 18.00 K/9, 4.50 BB/9
Jose Ruiz: 2 IP, 0.89 FIP, 18.00 K/9, 4.50 BB/9, 2 saves
Dylan Cease’s season is now over, with 124 innings pitched between Winston-Salem and Birmingham. He averaged about 5 1⁄3 innings pitched in 24 starts, which is a step in a positive direction. Last season, with the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox Low-A teams, he averaged just more than four innings per start, so this season brings outings a full inning longer. Next season, Cease will aim for six innings per start, as that seems to be the final piece needed to make him a top-rotation starter. In AA, Cease had a professional career-high K/9 at 13.41, as well as a career best walk rate between his two levels this season. His 2.42 FIP and 2.33 xFIP in AA is a career-best at any level, and that goes along with an 85.8% LOB percentage. When you have a .167 batting average against like Cease did, those numbers are not surprising. The stats say Cease is ready; his walks are still a couple ticks too high, but he has proven he can overcome them. Now, Cease just needs to keep adding more innings per season and per game.
