Four hits, three runs ... and another loss

Glendale can’t get out of its own way in 8-3 defeat

Just in time: After a rough first half in the AFL, Arobio clocked in with a strong fifth inning on Friday.

Blake Rutherford (rf) 1-for-3, BB (.170 BA, .661 OPS)
Gavin Sheets (1b) 0-for-3, 2 K (.234 BA, .584 OPS)
Micker Adolfo (dh) 0-for-3, 3 K (.189 BA, .734 OPS)
Vince Arobio (rp, 5th) IP, K, 15 pitches/10 strikes (7.04 ERA)

Glendale winds up its “first half” with another loss, giving up eight runs in just a seven-inning game and dropping to an AFL-worst 6-13. The Desert Dogs had just four hits, and none for extra bases.

And following the apparent rule that only one or two Sox prospects can have a good game at any one time, tonight it was Rutherford and Arobio.

Rutherford’s ballgame was a nice send-off to the Fall Stars Game tomorrow night, as he was voted on as the final member of the squad by fan balloting. Pretty cool, Blake, congrats!

On the flip side, Sheets and Adolfo accounted for five of eight Glendale whiffs alone, both having fairly horrid games. It’s a mess, a real mess.

Glendale’s elimination number is down to four, so as soon as Tuesday they could be officially out of the running for the AFL title game.
