Hey there, it’s double-barreled gamethread action today!
On this day 113 years ago, the Cubs tied the 1906 World Series up at two games apiece, 1-0, over the White Sox.
On this day 26 years ago, the White Sox were eliminated by the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALCS, four games to two.
And on this day 14 years ago, Patron Saint of Baseball Rapscallions and our very own Campbell’s Soup Kid, A.J. Pierzynski, noted that a third strike skipped into Josh Paul’s glove, or trickled back out after the catch, or waitwhocaresAJjustrantofirstbasesoitmustbelegit.
I was there, behind home plate, and boy were we confused in the stands. What a game. What a postseason run.
So there are other games, far less consequential in our eyes but hey, they gotta play ’em.
First up is Game 2 of Nats-Cards, and St. Louis has its work cut out for them.
