Peoria Javelinas 2, Glendale Desert Dogs 0
Blake Rutherford (RF) 1-for-2, 2 BB, K (.192 K, .708 OPS)
Bernardo Flores (SP) 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR, WP, L (1-2), 57 pitches/36 strikes (6.48 ERA)
It’s now nine of 12 losses this season for Glendale, which mustered just five hits while piling up 16 strikeouts. OUCH.
Rutherford returned to action after possibly getting a little shaken up recently with a fantastic diving catch. He had a single and two walks, so while the average is meek, the OBP is aight.
Flores wasn’t quite as lucky. Two earned runs in four innings isn’t great, but with this Desert Dogs offense there is scant margin for error.
The club gets Thursday off before hosting the 8-3, first-place Surprise Saguaros for consecutive games at Camelback Ranch on Friday and Saturday. The Desert Dogs have won exactly one game this season against traditional AFL teams (i.e. not Mexican League teams).
