The World Series may turn on the neck spasms of Max Scherzer

MLB: World Series-Houston Astros at Washington Nationals
Late break: The World Series may turn on the neck spasms for Max Scherzer, who’s scratched from the Game 5 start in favor of Joe Ross [above].

Some true World Series drama today, as Max Scherzer’s neck spasms have forced Nationals manager Dave Martinez to turn to Joe Ross for a surprise start in Game 5. With Gerrit Cole spasm-free on the Houston side, momentum that has already swung to the Astros takes an even bigger leap. Ross takes the mound in what is essentially a must-win for Washington.

From MLB:

“Max, obviously, he pitched with a broken nose [against the Phillies in June], he’s been hurt before, he’s gotten through things,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said. “When he comes in and says he’s hurt this bad, he’s hurt. And I can tell you now he’s very upset. He wants to be out there with his teammates. But hopefully we can get him back here for either Game 6 or 7.”

Game time per usual, 7 p.m. Central, Fox. Should be a crazy one tonight.
