Glendale Desert Dogs 2, Surprise Saguaros 0
Blake Rutherford (CF) 1-for-3, R, HR (1), RBI (3), BB, K (.207 BA, .826 OPS)
Gavin Sheets (1B) 1-for-3, 2B (3), BB (.200 BA, .529 OPS)
If only last-place Glendale could play first-place Surprise every game of the AFL season! Still not providing a ton of offense, little was needed in the Desert Dogs’ second straight win, 2-0.
Two batters into the game, Blake Rutherford homered to right, and the rout was on! (OK, Glendale scored just one more run, but hey, a win’s a win.)

Rutherford also led off the eighth inning with a walk, and was thrown out trying to steal second. Then with two outs, Sheets crushed a ball off of the right-field wall for a double.

He wouldn’t score, but both White Sox prospects got on base twice, and for this Glendale offense (and given the languid starts all three White Sox position players have had this AFL), no complaints.
And as a bit of icing, Rutherford threw out a runner at third base from center field, so his right-field arm strength does play well in center.
